    Electrician or engineer

It seems the confusion that has crept into the industry over the years is created as to who is responsible for the design and installation of installations.

The job of an engineer to is to design, calculate and create drawing and a set of documents which includes a bill of qualities.

The job of the electrician is to follow the instructions as per the design and drawings complying to regulations set out by the DOL to ensure a reasonably safe installation.

However over the years, electrical contractors have shot themselves in the foot by cutting corners and doing the design and installation to cut costs.

    What do you think ?

Should solar installations be designed by an engineer, installed under the supervision of qualified electrician with a certificate to prove they have completed an approved solar course, just like an IE or MIE.

Even if you are an MIE, you should have to complete the course which includes theory and practical.

I have heard now that the solar industry has taken a knock, and as the SSEG registrations are starting to gain momentum, slowly but surely, all those non compliant installations are surfacing, resulting in huge costs, running into the millions for the customers.

    Interesting times ahead.

If you are smart people you have climbed on the subscription band wagon, promising people huge savings on their, tying people into never ending subscriptions, so that they can benefit from huge tax savings (apparently as much as 125%) , the rich getting rich and poor sucker creating more debt. the money you might save on your current bill will be lost over the years.
