    Kitchen sink bonding

    Hi

    Bonding questions.

1 .A stainless steel sink supported by a stainless steel frame and legs.It has pvc drain pipes and those flexible metal braided pipes feeding from the copper water supply to the sink mixer.

2.What if my resistance reading to the sink is 0.2 Ohms or less.

    Must this sink be bonded?

Thanks for all the previous informative discussions.

From where are you measuring 1,2 ohms ? Between the sink and what ?

I have not measured it yet.
It would be between switch socket outlet cover and sink.

I believe if it is less than 7.7 Kohm to the earth terminal it needs to be bonded.

            Thanks
Where did you get this info from?

https://youtu.be/TFt3d77LujQ?si=YXW4slj0HgI-lLuh its not sans but how would one know when something is extraneous conductive?

                Interesting.
                Thanks

You Tube can be a dangerous place to take information and regard it as gospel - Rather check against the actual regulations

Sans requires hot and cold water systems to be bonded and then also refers to everything within arms reach etc - So in short , I would say you need to test and make sure it is within 0.2ohm - It does not need to have a physical bonding strap

Extract from SANS 10142-1 ed 3.1 below

                  6.13 Bonding
NOTE 1 The aim of bonding is to bring all the bonded parts to the same electrical
                  potential.
NOTE 2 No external conductor is required if compliance with the requirements for
continuity can be proved by the test in 8.6.2.

6.13.2.2 Hot and cold water systems
Where the hot water system includes electric components and the water pipes
are of conducting material, hot and cold water systems shall be bonded
together and also be bonded to the earth continuity conductor system.

                  8.6.2 Continuity of bonding
Confirm the continuity of the bonding conductors between all exposed
conductive parts within arms reach (or see annex A) of each other. When a
test device or instrument is used, it shall have a supply that has a no‐load d.c.
or a.c. voltage of 4 V to 24 V, and a current of at least 0,2 A. In each case, the
resistance shall not exceed 0,2 Ω.

                    Thanks
Something I was wrestling with.My brain hit a miss. If all bonding is correct .What about touch potential .One hand touches the correctly bonded pipes with feet on the ground.Current should always take the easiest way to earth via bonding and earth bar.Not through the person.
