    New PV installation questions

Good day, I've been at a new PV installation. I had to do the electrical side and coc it.

I have questions, from an electrical point of view and my limited knowledge of solar systems, raised a red flag or two.
The system is a 12kw 3phase system with 15kw batteries and 12 panels east and 12 panels west.
The batteries don't have a fuse or a breaker and it don't need one since the batteries have built in breakers, according to the installer.
There is two strings coming in and only one string is connected to the spd in the combiner box.
There is no dc isolator or dc breaker in the combiner box only 2 fuses for the red strings, the black strings go to a neutral bar and can't be isolated.
Orange enclosures, with no inner door, had been used for the PV combiner box and the AC combiner box.
The AC combiner box have two 4 pole mains, I insisted on them, for Eskom incoming and Inverter Incoming and a 3phase change over.
It would have been nice to have a third 4 pole mains so that one can split Eskom incoming and the Inverter Outgoing but since nothing other than the Inverter is using Eskom it doesn't really matter.

Oops on the picture the bridges to the spd is not in but they had been done, just not on the picture

    My advice - WALK AWAY

I had to do the electrical side and coc it.
The complete solar installation , DC cabling etc is Electrical installation work not just the 400v side

It would appear that you are not in general control of the contract and would be putting your license at risk.

The incoming strings need to be able to isolate both pos and neg - pos and neg wires do not have voltage labels
Surge arrestor is not connected and looks like a 3 phase surge arrestor , not DC but not sure as cant see ratings

The bypass switch should be bypassing inverter in and inverter out - You are achieving nothing by bypassing Eskom to inverter in

Looking at the 2 pics you have sent it appears to be fraught with errors and would guess that the balance of the installation is a disaster

Do not sign off for a so called Solar contractor that is not registered as an Electrical contractor - They are abusing your license and the industry along with the customer who has more than likely taken the cheapest price, so I find it difficult to feel sorry for the customer

    OHSA is pretty clear

A registered person shall exercise general control over all electrical installation work being carried out, and no person may allow such work without such control.

    Issuing of certificate of compliance
    9. (1) No person other than a registered person may issue a certificate of compliance.
    (2) A registered person may issue a certificate of compliance accompanied by the required test report only after having satisfied himself or herself by means of an inspection and test that
    (a)
    a new electrical installation complies with the provisions of regulation 5(1) and was carried out under his or her general control;

    Electrical contractor
    6. (1) No person may do electrical installation work as an electrical contractor unless that person has been registered as an electrical contractor in terms of these Regulations.
