I sold a brand new laptop which I had just bought by mail last week. I sold it as was too slow to do video editing & I wanted to recoup my loss.
I placed an ad on Gumtree & within seconds this guy contacted me; said he'd send round an IT guy who worked for him to collect it. He also sent me a (fake, as it transpired) proof of payment for R 5 200 into my account. The money has not arrived (he claimed to be with RMB/FNB, and I am with FNB) I phoned both banks & they advised me to report it to the cops & Fraud Division, which I have done.
But please BEWARE this disgusting individual who scams one during the lockdown, leaving me with 0 money & 0 pc.
What on earth can be done? I suspect the driver was an Uber employee who did not know the guy at all; but Uber can't give me the info on who ordered the pickup car.
