The Bar at the Foot of Mount Kilimanjaro

Rate this Entry

Every time we say goodbye
I walk that sad slow walk
Believing the lie
The one that says we’ll see each other soon
The one where your body flies me to the moon
Where your lips drown me in an ocean of fire
And your hips map the road to ultimate desire
Every time I leave you I get broken
In ever smaller pieces with every
Promise that we’ve never even spoken
I cannot read or write or think

As often as my eyes have to blink
I need your voice to whisper and scream
And talk softly slow into a lazy night
I need you to kiss this whole dark dream alright
Bring back my heart if you don’t need it
But wrap it airtight so no one else can ever see it
I will take it to the slope of Kilimanjaro
And plant it there so love may grow
In the unsuspecting hearts of innocents

In your arms I am the girl that glows
And when you leave, well, that me,I don’t know
The stranger that remains looks very much like me
But the gray life she lives – it cannot be

In between the busiest of days
I remain amazed how you sneak in and steal
Such a big piece of my head so real
You are always and forever near me
I feel you in the night,
I kiss you in our flight,
We bask in golden sun,
We shower naked under sparkling waterfalls, as a dare, for fun
We talk to animals, and they talk back
We walk with spirits twirling and watch butterfly wings unfurling
But the thing that I like most is believing the lie
That there is always only you and I
And that I’ll see you soon
And you’ll smile
And I’ll swoon
We’ll dance in dreams and do all those things
That we were meant to share
So every day I go to that bar at the foot of Mount Kili
And I watch and I listen and I wait for you there

    In 4 months I will have been waiting 20 years. I am getting tired now. I hope I don't have much longer to wait. I am almost double my age. Not as "handsome" anymore. Not as energetic anymore. Will I still be acceptable? I will still wait.

    “Romeo and Juliet, they never felt this way I bet, so don’t underestimate my point of view!"
    The mythical and much sought after concept of love! It actually starts in Genesis with the very first commandment to man, ‘Be fruitful and multiply,’ To do just that man and woman are opposites that attract.
    Now, if you can use a metaphor of your kiss been the equivalent to a saint’s cleansing touch and prayer and after deliberation with this witty chick you both conclude that the kiss you shared had indeed purged the man’s sin and the woman so content that she concludes ‘you kiss by the book,’ then, you know you on to something!

    ROMEO
    [To JULIET] If I profane with my un-worthiest hand
    This holy shrine, the gentle fine is this:
    My lips, two blushing pilgrims, ready stand
    To smooth that rough touch with a tender kiss.

    JULIET
    Good pilgrim, you do wrong your hand too much,
    Which mannerly devotion shows in this;
    For saints have hands that pilgrims' hands do touch,
    And palm to palm is holy palmers' kiss.

    ROMEO
    Have not saints lips, and holy palmers too?
    JULIET
    Ay, pilgrim, lips that they must use in prayer.
    ROMEO
    O, then, dear saint, let lips do what hands do;
    They pray, grant thou, lest faith turn to despair.

    JULIET
    Saints do not move, though grant for prayers' sake.
    ROMEO
    Then move not, while my prayer's effect I take.
    Thus from my lips, by yours, my sin is purged.

    JULIET
    Then have my lips the sin that they have took.
    ROMEO
    Sin from thy lips? O trespass sweetly urged!
    Give me my sin again.

    JULIET
    You kiss by the book.

    Love
    Then said Almitra, "Speak to us of Love."
    And he raised his head and looked upon the people, and there fell a stillness upon them.
    And with a great voice he said:
    When love beckons to you follow him,
    Though his ways are hard and steep.
    And when his wings enfold you yield to him,
    Though the sword hidden among his pinions may wound you.
    And when he speaks to you believe in him,
    Though his voice may shatter your dreams as the north wind lays waste the garden.
    For even as love crowns you so shall he crucify you. Even as he is for your growth so is he for your pruning.
    Even as he ascends to your height and caresses your tenderest branches that quiver in the sun,
    So shall he descend to your roots and shake them in their clinging to the earth.
    Like sheaves of corn he gathers you unto himself.
    He threshes you to make you naked.
    He sifts you to free you from your husks.
    He grinds you to whiteness.
    He kneads you until you are pliant;
    And then he assigns you to his sacred fire, that you may become sacred bread for God's sacred feast.
    All these things shall love do unto you that you may know the secrets of your heart, and in that knowledge become a fragment of Life's heart.
    But if in your fear you would seek only love's peace and love's pleasure,
    Then it is better for you that you cover your nakedness and pass out of love's threshing-floor,
    Into the seasonless world where you shall laugh, but not all of your laughter, and weep, but not all of your tears.
    Love gives naught but itself and takes naught but from itself.
    Love possesses not nor would it be possessed;
    For love is sufficient unto love.
    When you love you should not say, "God is in my heart," but rather, I am in the heart of God."
    And think not you can direct the course of love, if it finds you worthy, directs your course.
    Love has no other desire but to fulfil itself.
    But if you love and must needs have desires, let these be your desires:
    To melt and be like a running brook that sings its melody to the night.
    To know the pain of too much tenderness.
    To be wounded by your own understanding of love;
    And to bleed willingly and joyfully.
    To wake at dawn with a winged heart and give thanks for another day of loving;
    To rest at the noon hour and meditate love's ecstasy;
    To return home at eventide with gratitude;
    And then to sleep with a prayer for the beloved in your heart and a song of praise upon your lips.

    I would certainly say that this is the robust standard of love! Good stuff Blurock, good stuff indeed!
