UIF - Responsibilities of employer
Hi all,
Over the last couple of months I'm constantly referred to The Forum SA whenever doing some searches on Google, so now I decided to join this forum and get first-hand opinions on matters this forum's members have knowledge on. My first request for advice is th following: Does an employer have a responsibility to supply an employee who worked on a temporary contract with a UI19 form on termination of employment? As I understand the system the employer must provide the Labour Dept with the UI19 and only on request provide this to the employee or am I wrong in assuming this. Thank you. |

As the employer you are not obliged to furbish any employee with the form, per se.
The employee normally applies for benefits at dept and then returns with the form. That being said the actual task of giving the employee the form is not onerous. The form is available on the departments web site. On an aside - by temporary contracts, would you be referring to a fixed term contract? |

However, as already just mentioned, why not just give it to them if they really want it. |

Thanks for the replies guys.
Anthony, with temporary contract I referred to a contract for a specific project, coming to and end upon completion of the project. We already supplied the employee with the form and had no issue in doing this but he was too late in applying for UIF and now it seems (my opinion, I might be wrong) he wants to shift the blame to the employer and want to urgue that it was our reponsibility to inform him about UIF matters. Thank you. |
