    Hi,

    Does anyone use Google Docs?

How is your experience with it?

    Thanks,

For me it's so-so in documents and spreadsheets. The major bonus is that it can share easily. But I seldom use the online editor - I rather use OpenOffice.org with an addon which opens and saves directly to GoogleDocs. In which case I could've just used a ftp site

Where I've used it extensively is to have a quick survey via email, since it saves all the answers into a spreadsheet and generates graphs in one go. Saves a bit of time, and no need to import / export from some other source - keeps an updated online spreadsheet available all the time. But I'm sure other products have similar capabilities.

Where it falls to pieces is with specialized formatting - in which case even the OOo extension stuffs up your formatting. So if your documents / spreadsheets are rather simplistic, it's not a "bad" product to use. But when you're a "power user" adding stuff like interactive buttons, conditional formatting, etc. I'd not advise using GD.

We use Google Docs on a daily basis and its fine for basic collaboration and sharing (note that you can share any file type, not just docs). The editor is very basic, but depending on what you need it for, it could be more than enough.

From a reliability point of view, I've never had a problem and can vouch that its a solid system.

Rather than use Google Docs, I use Dropbox.

This allows me to create an online folder which I can choose to share with others. It creates a mirrored folder on my hard-drive (and on the hard-drives of those with whom I have shared the Dropbox folder).

I can then use regular files (like Excel and Word etc) which be accessed by myself and my collaborators, so there's no formatting limitations.

It's also great as a simple online backup tool.
