    New Growth Path (NGP)

Three stories worth the read on the NGP released to Parliament this week by Ebrahim Patel:

Patel finally shows his hand by Kevin Davie
Planning with Patel by Lynley Donnelley
Zumanomics: Taking the muddle way by Nic Dawes

    Lots to digest in there.

Consensus politics & paybacks for previous favours, has led to Zuma's muddlenomics.

SA urgently needs a smart leader with the testicular fortitude & foresight to pull the country upwards. As I'm observing things, at present, the slide downwards continues at ever-increasing pace.

Just got my notice from the Bargaining Council for the Electrical Contracting Industries about pay increases for February 2011 - 8% for people on minimum and 7% for people earning above minimum.

    Inflation running at 4%.
Construction industry showing a contraction of around 40% (now that the World Cup splurge is over).

So about double inflation in a shrinking market. Yeah, I know - makes perfect sense as long as you're not the one losing your job

Prospects of a moratorium on salary increases? As long as we have centralised bargaining and stubbornly defy market forces, about nil I reckon.
