who recycles UPS batteries in JHB?

    Hi all,

Does anyone know of a company in the JHB area that refurbishes / recycles 12V UPS batteries? I know Midas pays R114 for a car battery when you buy a new one from them.

We recently replaced a lot of UPS batteries and instead of just tossing them into the bin, I thought it could be worthwhile to take it to such a place?

Not sure where they would end up.

    either :
the scrap metal merchants for the lead / other metal content,
    or
ask the battery manufacturers ( years ago I recall Exide, Chloride, Dixon, First National Battery ) - they should be able to tell you who recycles all the scrap.

I think it might be illegal to toss them in the bin whilst they still have acid in them. I would ask you local Midas if they can't send them for recycling along with their car batteries.

Have you tried your local "Battery Centre", I don't think they'll pay anything for them though?

I was hoping to make a quite buck from this, since I have a few of them and we need to replace more batteries soon.

I am afraid you are not going to make a buck from this venture. I have not found anybody yet that is willing to part with money for old UPS batteries
