    Section 51 Manual for Private?

    Hi,

I got the following email today:

IS YOUR BUSINESS REGISTERED WITH THE HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION?

Do you own a business? A part-time business? Or trade from home
    to make some extra income?

By law you are required to submit a Section 51 Manual for Private
Bodies to the South African Human Rights Commission. Failure to
comply with this piece of legislation could result in a fine of
up to R15000 and/or two years in jail.

REGISTER NOW AND AVOID THE RED TAPE.

Registration is really easy. Total Compliance can help you complete
your Section 51 Manual, lodge it with the Human Rights Commission
and will send a copy to you. There's no need to worry about any
    hassle.

Is it really necessary to have this? It does sound like a quick money making 'scam' to me, so I first want to check with someone who knows

You don't need a Section 51 manual if your turnover is below:
From a word document from the HRC website.
    So it is a chancer.

I got one of these mails from our accountant again today, and did a check and see some other companies in the same field have it, some don't.

Can someone please shed some light on this matter for me?

What exactly is this, and why do we need it? Her email actually convinces me that we could be fined in January if we don't comply.

You can be fined - it was postponed to end of this month.

    BUT

Al as HSRC are on holiday - and try to email them your manual.

    Mailbox is full.......

I sent them my manual in 2006 or so afair ..... registered post.

I sent it again via email and registered post on the 7th Dec. I would keep those non-delivery messages just incase.
