I think we're missing the point. This is all about money, and the more money the telecoms can get out of the "ignorant" South African citizen, the better.

There absolutely no reason, at all why we should be paying per MB / GB for anything, especially locally.

We have some local server with IS, and pay for traffic between 2 server which are located in 2 different datecentres, on the SAME NETWORK. Why????? There's absolutely no reason why, yet they do it. And we don't even pay less for that traffic than for international traffic either.

This leaves a lot of room for questioning. I mean, I can understand if they charge you an X amount for say 512Kb (like the Diginet model), and amount Y for 1Mbps, but we still have to pay for the amount of data downloaded on those lines as well.

And, why hasen't Europe / USA / Australia, etc's telecomms not gone bankrupt when they don't charge per MB on download? Even though about it? They charge for the speed of the line, and that's it. The speed of the line is a CAP in itself. Theoretically, one can download 5GB max on a 64K line.

My argument is, that this is an easy way to make money, lots of money, and no one can do anything about it.

P.S. garthu, why can't you EFT from ABSA to Neotel? Who do they bank with?

They with NEdabnk and have a linked or predefined account at ABSA so you select the predefined account and enter details. The problem comes with entering account number, it comes back with doesnt exist. There must be a system that ABSA uses to determine the account is correct or exists which the info must come from NEotel. Neotel blames ABSA, cant give me a solution!! Crazy...

Just out of curiosity (maybe their accountant isn't clued up?), maybe the account number they gave you is shorter than what ABSA accepts, and you may need to add 2 or even 4 zero's to the beginning of the account number?

Thanks but believe me have gone through the motions. They admit there is a problem (not just me). As is say they blame ABSA... but thanks for the thought!
