Question Is the DOL conducting UIF audits?

    * Apologies, DOL (Department of Labour), not DOE

    Hi there

So I thought I would check in here first because the members are informed and seem very knowledgeable. I received an email from SAGE VIP, telling me about the Department of Labour conducting UIF audits. I've tried to see if there is any mention of this via Google, but I haven't found a single thing relating to an announcement.

Our business has auditors that compile all the paperwork, so I will have to follow up with them, but just checking if any of you have also received this or are aware of it.

I have attached the email below. If you guys could shed some light, I would appreciate it.

    "Dear Customer,

I trust that you are well. As I mentioned in my previous mail, Department of Labour is doing audits on companies who are not submitting their UIF declarations each month. You have to declare to the Department of Labour what you’ve paid over to SARS monthly.

Allow me to just explain the normal monthly process:

You have to pay your UIF, PAYE and Skills over to SARS each month on one EMP201 before the 7th of the following month, but this alone is not sufficient. You have to then declare to the Department of Labour what UIF you’ve paid to SARS. This is a report in VIP which creates a file containing your registration number that needs to be mailed to the Department of Labour.

If you haven’t been sending these files to the Department of Labour, you might be audited by them. We are assisting customers by creating and mailing these files to Department of Labour before they get audited. We access each month’s payroll for the previous 12 months and submit the monthly declarations in the correct sequence.

I want to make it clear, by only making the payments to SARS; you are not following the complete process required. You are also required to email a declaration to the Department of Labour.

Please let me know, before getting audited, if you would like a consultant to help you with this at your premises, we can unfortunately not assist customers over the phone with this process.
