    laptop advice

    Hi there,
I want to buy a laptop for my daughter. She is turning "sweet 16" and is in grade 10 with CAT as a subject.
She will not do gaming on it, but would basically just use it to practice her CAT on and watch dvd's etc. And store photo's on, check facebook etc.
What should I look for ... Is Lenovo a good one? Any advice would be welcome. O yes, can I buy from Makro or Dion ... or should I rather go thru a specialized pc shop?

    I'm in PE.

    Thanks.
    Christel

Lenovo is good so is Macro and Dions. Decide how much you are willing to spend and then see what is available in your budget.

Hi Christel - my wife uses a Lenovo for the business and I use an HP. We are both very happy with them. I tend to buy from a computer shop as if there are problems early on they are more likely to sort them out quickly.

The mass stores have to send them away. We also do not go for the extended guarantee as I am of the opinion that if it is going to give problems it will do so in the first few weeks of owning it.

If she is going to be listening to music, then check out the sound before you buy as some laptops do not have good quality, and that can spoil it for her.

All shops have to send laptops back to the authorized repair centres, not just mass stores.

Thank you. I've been to Dion today and they have a Dell, model 3542 for R6000, which seems to be a good buy. It also have space to put in more RAM should we wish to at a later stage. It also have a 3 year onsite warranty. I have spoken to a few people who thinks this is a good buy. Thanks for your input Adrian and Mike

You should stop by Computer Mania if you have one in town. They also have a good range of laptops.

I eventually bought the Dell i3, model 3542 with Windows 8 (option to upgrade to 10) & Office 365 included (1 year), 1 tb harddrive and 4gb ram. I don't know all the specs, but its a nice laptop and my daughter is loving it. 3 year warranty. Thanks for everyone's input.
