I have searched the forum for any information on the above topic but I was not able to find anything. I'd appreciate any information from the community.

Background:

I was embroiled in a legal matter with a previous employer. It involved a CCMA case, and numerous high court matters in both Cape Town and Gauteng. I lost the initial high court matter with costs.

Tax Question:

Since all of the legal proceedings were between myself and a previous employer as a result of seeking due compensation, are my legal expenses tax deductible? I represented myself at the CCMA but I had an attorney for the Cape Town high court matter. I represented myself in the North Gauteng high court matter which involved a lot of travel expenses.

My accountant says none of the legal expenses are tax deductible but a SARS official said that this is not so and certain expenses can be claimed.

Could anyone point me in the direction of those expenses?
