Yes, I prefer having the access on the side - so much simpler to change cards (even on a tripod). Though most of these compact super-zoom stuff have their card bay directly next to the battery. Most of them even share the battery's door. That's one of the "typical" compromises.

That's why I would suggest doing lots of research, especially trying to find user/independent reviews. I've burnt myself before with that Oly (by not doing enough research), and it was needless, since even the DPReview site had warned about it's stupid functionality, slow lens & limited battery life. http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/olympussp560uz/19

If you really want to go with enormous zoom: http://www.dpreview.com/news/2014/02...t&ref=title_12

    Hi Singhms,
If you finally decide to stay with the bridge camera route may I suggest that you seriously consider the SX50HS if you can afford it. Google this site for comparison.
    http://snapsort.com/compare/Canon-Po...rShot-SX510-HS.

I really cannot tell you whether my battery useage is good or bad. I was recently on a cruise ship tour of Italy and Greece and the battery generally lasted for the days outing. I would however strongly recommend that you do buy a spare battery, preferably an original Canon brand.

One strange thing about that Sony. They used to (and still do in most of their cams) use Carl-Zeis lenses (almost as good as the Leica's in the Panasonics), but this camera states quite clearly it's using a "Sony" lens - perhaps Zeis simply didn't want their name on it (too bleeding edge for them).

And something which shocked me: Be sure to check a lot of other places for prices too. I just came across this for my current cam: http://www.wantitall.co.za/Photograp...ck__B000TM7GD8

Reeeaaaaallllllyyyyy? I certainly didn't part with R16k for that thing! This is more in line with the "true price": http://johannesburg.olx.co.za/panaso...-iid-573316822

Though it's old, I'd prefer a FZ200 instead, if I was buying a new one.

The more I look around and the more I research, the more confused I get

Had a look at the sx50 & sx510 in store, both are good cameras. The only thing that does concern me with both is the battery life. Both seem to be on the lower end.

I am still looking at getting a smaller sized camera that was my main reason for looking at the sx510.

I also came across a compact sony wx300 - it only has 20x zoom but it the smallest and lightest in the 20x zoom range. What I do like is the battery is rated at double the shots of the sx510 & sx50 - any thoughts on this camera?

when the review of the sx50 says that the camera is slow. What do they mean by that? The time between photos can be taken?
