    Point of sale system

Anybody able to suggest a point of sale system? It needs to be fairly simple, for about 100 - 150 transactions a month. All items - glass, doors, windows etc are custom sized, virtually no items are identical, so I suspect anything needing barcoding may be too much of a schlep. As you can guess, I have very limited ( actually boggerall ) knowledge of this. Should it be connected to a PC or would a till suffice? Are tills with built in progamms/packages even available?

Hi Richard, for that number of transactions you might want to consider a decent cash register instead.

You can get pretty amazing cash registers with 2000 PLU's (price look-ups) and more, and great reporting journals. It would certainly be considerable cheaper that pc's and a POS setup.

Have a look here and see if this will work for you http://www.cashregistershop.co.za/ht...registers.html

Hi Clive-T, thanks for your advice and the link, much appreciated.

I am sure a cash register is the way to go for me. The last guys I spoke to - a few years ago - recommended a software package costing around R44 000. Much too rich for my blood!

I bought a machine with software, slip printer, till & scanner for R 7000 a couple of months back. The machine is refurbished Lenovo with XP. Nothing fancy, just a run of the mill PC. The software ok and very esy to use. You can set up stock codes and barcodes but you are not forced to.

Whoever tried to sell you point of sale software for R44k is a moron.

This is what I use: http://www.free-pos-software.com/index.html

Can anyone suggest a good bar coding system for a factory? We need a system to tie in with a stock system (Pastel). It must also be easy to print bar codes on products and read/generate packing slips for dispatch.
Excellence is not a skill; its an attitude...
