Yep - you can share how it went.

Or did you want to know where to go?

Contacted the ECB, they dont have any controll over the registrations what so ever, but they will take R350 from you for registration so you can gain access to online COC, because the deptment of labour are still a couple years behind when it comes to paper work and the internet.

Then i contacted the ECA to see if i could some how register with them to make the proccess a little easier, not interested, they gave me a number to contact someone in the Royal building on the 10 th floor.

So i contacted the department of labour in the Royal building, they did answer the telephone, gave them my email address and now i wait. Apparently i have to go into Durban to hand in the forms, once i receive them, they dont accept them via email. They dont have a data base to record registered contractors, yet...mmm this is just gona get more interesting.

I went to the department of labours website but they dont have any details regarding electrical contractor registrations, not that i actually expected there to be any info, i just thought i would check.

So now the the industry takes yet another step back into the 3 rd world.

COC are becoming quick easy money, well done to the person who came up with the bright idea of leaving it up to the DOL to register contractors, i suppose the DOL also wanted a piece of the pie.

I'm already starting to think it's worth the money

It's going to be interesting to hear how this plays out for you in the end.

I am still using the paper document. I previously made an enquiry about a year ago and was told the price of online COC's. It was horrendously expensive, far more than the printed version which is strange when you consider there is no printing expense nor do you have to employ someone to sit and sell them.
The ECA now sells a 4 page document which I have yet to move onto

Just cut the extra 2 pages off the 6 page COC and just tell people it is the ECA - COC who is gona know the difference.

I had to drop off a COC which was outstanding for about 2 or 3 years at Durban electricity department customer services and was rather impressed because they no longer just accept the COC document, it has to be checked by their technical staff. While waiting sorting out some other documentation another contractor arrived to drop off a COC, it was rejected because the contractor had not filled in the test result values, it makes you wonder if he even did the test or been to site. Bummer they now check, because now i cant use names like captain morgan or jack frost joe soap and numbers like 10810, when filling out the COCs anymore

The DOL took my email address and told me they would send me all the documentation required to register. I wonder how long they will take to send me the documents i need to fill out.

I take it you can just keep trading and signing COC's until they send you the documents, using your old registration numbers, if anyone asked tell them your registration is "pending"
