    Another new website

I have registered a new domain and got the hosting sorted and I now need to add a content platform. I want to be able to sell onnline, have a bit of a blog with some galleries. The purpose of the site will be the promotion of a particular sport and selling goods into that fraternaty.

Any ideas on the platform to use?

Ok, before I get bombarded with offers; no, I don't want to spend lots of cash on having somebody develop a bespoke system and then have them manage it. I need to be able to deal with the content myself as I do with my other sites.

Adrian - Wordpress & WooCommerce. You can thank me later.

Yes, Mark Atkinson just suggested Wordpress. Fact is, I used to use Joomla and Virtuemart for all our online stores, with decent success, but in all honesty the WooCommerce system is just brilliant. It is so easy to use and has practically all the extensions available that you would expect/require. Oh, and one of the co-founders of WooCommerce is from Cape Town, so there are a number of local extensions available.

A very good morning to you Mark!
Your IT and web design knowledge is enviable! I sincerely wish that I could import all your knowledge. My IT knowledge is lacking and has much to be desired for! I’ve strengthened my resolve and I'm going to learn from you guys going forward!

Thanks for the kind words, Vanash.

Being in the industry that I'm in requires an ever-growing knowledge base. So much so, that I can spend up to half of every day just reading/researching. Knowledge in IT and web-practice becomes outdated very quickly, unfortunately. The best thing you can do is follow the people/websites that keep you up to date.

The site is up. It's amazing how easy it was to set up.

Now for the tedious bit....loading the content...

Awesome. It really is a breeze to set up. The only time consuming bit (for us, anyway) is styling everything.

Did you use one of their free themes or buy a theme?

I haven't had a change to look at themes yet. I need to design a mascot and then to theme around that. I have a very clear idea of what I need but my artistic drawing skills are rather poor. I'm going to PM you and tell you more about the site.

Yet more evidence that you're destined to go far, Mark.

    I'm suitably impressed.

I was waiting for your comment, Dave. But thanks, sometimes you've just gotta face facts.
