    Chinese New Year Looms!

    Hi guys....

Well, it's that time of the year again - silly season here in China.

Chinese New Year is looming on the horizon - due to begin on January 23.

Factories and our clients are rushing to get orders out before everything closes.

Just a few things to bear in mind if you do have production in China:

    1. Give yourself at least a week (or preferably) 10 days for ex-factory - the last thing you need is for production to be delayed for some reason. You may find yourself in a very bad position if they cannot finish before CNY.

    2. Arrange shipping/forwarding early - again, it's a peak and you will want confirmation early - especially air-freight.

    3. If you are having pre-shipment inspections done - it may be good to change it to a DUPRO inspection, in case of non-conformity - you may still have time to correct the production quality.

Lastly, bear in mind that after CNY, new staff are always hired, meaning a decline in productivity (they're training the tea-lady bla bla bla), and also a decline in quality output - be diligent with inspections. For any quotes done before CNY - be careful for price rises after CNY.

    Hope this info helps!

I want to order same spares for my laser in January when we get back to work. It sounds like it may be better to order them now. These are just for peace of mind.
Only stress when you can change the outcome!

Thank you Max. Better get those orders out now!

Do the factories close for one week or more?

Hi all, we are counting on downtime between Jan 22 - 28... Some suppliers may have other dates, as per Rory's note...

Can you please explain why companies hire new staff after the CNY? Do the companies replace many of their existing staff or do they just increase the number of their employees?

In what way is the NewYear a burden? Surely it's a welcome and well deserved holiday for everyone concerned.

Typically, factory workers are nomadic, they may stay within the same "general" industry", but likely will go to the factory offering the best wage package.

For my wife's business, only the senior management have been consistent for the last few years, the actual workers and internal QC have been changing year to year.

For my business in QC and Auditing, we generally see a spike in Factory Audits after CNY, as clients need to verify the manufacturing capabilities year-to-year.

The holidays are very welcome, but it is the nature of the beast that there is rotation of workers, and as such a decline in quality output.

For us Dec/Jan is the busiest season for inspections, as clients are rushing to get products out the door before CNY...

    Cheers,
    Max
