This is a high risk industry due to the many pitfalls. Not only do you have to fully comprehend what it entails to run a fleet with maintenance, repairs, driver training, HR, IR, road transport regulations and legislation etc. One also have to understand a bit about accounting, contract law, negotiation skills and running a business in general. People actually go to university to study this industry.

Another way to do it would be to go and work for a transport or logistics company. Learn as much as you can and only when you think you know more than the average fleet owner should you start a business in this sector. But this also takes time...

I would not risk getting wiped out in a highly competitive industry that I know nothing of. Margins are often small and leaves no room for error.

    info & advice

ive worked for a mining company for three years now. and through the various mines i worked during that period, ive learned a few things, amongst them was the coal transportation, through that knowledge ive also made friends.as a result i was so interested in it i went and registered my CC and now im on my final stages of my vat applications.

based on what i know, i believe im more than capable of managing a few trucks as the begining stages as i move forward to gathering more information and learning more as i grow. starting a business is all about taking risks and not luck alone.im more than willing to face those risks and challanges, one day at time, with well plannings and organising, i believe i can survive..

some of those things u've mentioned, also made friends in those departments,so some of those things i can say ive prepared for.
