    Question info on import tax


    i'd like to know what the import tax/duties is for clothing goods from china.
    i know clothing is more than other goods. thxx

    And it still lands here cheaper than we can make it locally. COSATU you have a problem with your decent wage, no one can afford to employ one of your werkers!

    so true....... know someone that imported shirts from India just because it saves them a ridiculous amount of money than making it local. but sad in the one side also loosing local business.

    i hoped it would be cheaper. did'nt rsa and china sign a new deal recently for better economic ties ? i doubt that china charges imports of 45% from sa

    Not at all, SA just sells the minerals below cost, in other words we subsidize the exports to China, then we import the finished goods and stick a import duty on it. We lose both ways, firstly we make no decent return on the minerals, which can be used to help local poverty, and secondly we can not create jobs, because the imported finished goods are so cheap.
