These double transactions do happen sometimes. I've had it with parking at the Durban airport before (the old one to the South of Durban), and that was a case of inserting the card into the machine, paying "once" and being on my way. When I picked up on it when my statement arrived and called the airport, they advised that there'd been some technical connection issue that had caused it - something about being offline and online - and reversed the one transaction without any problems.

So it might not have been intentional to double charge you - it could have been gremlins...

Being the exact same amount, I'm surprised ABSA didn't advise you of the possibility. I'd think the next step remains going to the garage concerned though and pointing out the error. If they don't reverse the double charge, then I'd lodge a formal dispute with the card company.

Draw cash. Pay cash for your purchases & transactions.

i do that already...and normally pay for small items with cash...and where people dont offer a discount for cash...they get to pay the fee...its just that my vehicles costs R600 a pop sometimes as often as twice a week..cash withdraw fee compared to credit card purchase...free...then you start adding it up...credit card sounds like a better option for now...it like paying for the tolls...it is just easier and quicker to swipe the card in the no cash lane.

    Hi there,

Had the same thing in my head as AndyD. Well, guess the transfer was already cleared in their account by then, so that would make it hard to reverse. Perhaps a system glitch???

    Regards,
    Mr Smit
